What to Think About When Engaging A Buddhist Funeral Provider?
1. Do You Require Any Customisations?
If you have specific preferences on how the funeral should be held or additional requests in terms of facilities, we are happy to customise the arrangements to honour your loved one’s final wishes. Knowing these information beforehand will help us prepare efficiently to provide the best service possible.
2. Where Should The Wake Be Held?
Would you prefer the funeral to be closer to home, or at a parlour? While a funeral parlour is more presentable, hosting one at home provides convenience for the family. Void deck funeral services have also improved to give families the convenience while also providing the comfort and look of a parlour.
3. Where Should The Final Resting Place Be?
We can either choose to bury in a burial plot, or send our loved ones off via cremation. Loved ones that have been buried will eventually need to be exhumed depending on the lease of the land. The exhumed remains will then be cremated. We would have to decide what we would like to do with the ashes after the cremation. We can either inter the ashes in a niche or columbarium, or scatter the ashes at sea or land.
Buddhist Funeral Services in Singapore
In Buddhist tradition, the primary purpose of a funeral procession is to accumulate merits on behalf of the deceased. This is often done through sacred monk-led rituals and the chanting of Buddhist sutras. These practices are believed to help absolve negative karma, guiding the soul towards a better rebirth and ultimately, the attainment of Nirvana.

Frequently Asked Questions For Buddhist Funeral in Singapore
How much does a buddhist funeral cost?
Buddhist funeral packages can range from $3,000++ to upwards of $10,000. The cost varies depending on the scope of services, funeral facilities, and after-funeral costs.
What colours to not wear at a buddhist funeral procession?
Avoid bright colours such as red, yellow, or pink. Instead, opt for muted tones like black, white, or grey. Refrain from wearing clothing with flashy prints or revealing outfits, as these may be seen as disrespectful in a funeral setting.
Do you have to give condolences money when attending a buddhist funeral?
It is a respectful gesture to give according to your financial means. However, if you’re unable to contribute financially, there are other meaningful ways to show support, such as sending flowers or offering help with funeral arrangements whenever possible.
What not to do after a buddhist funeral?
During the initial 100-day mourning period after a loved one’s passing, it is customary to avoid attending joyful occasions like weddings and baby showers if you’re a close relative to the deceased. Taking holidays is also discouraged during this time. Observing this quiet period of mourning reflects respect and filial devotion to the deceased.
Why does the mourning period last 49 days?
In Buddhism, numbers hold deep symbolic meaning and in the case of death, the number 49 is especially significant. It is believed that the soul of the deceased undergoes a transitional phase over 49 days, during which it is purified and prepared for rebirth. On the 49th day, the soul is said to be reincarnated into its next life.
Where Is A Buddhist Funeral Usually Held, And For How Long?
In Singapore, a Buddhist funeral procession is typically held at either a funeral parlour or the HDB void deck. The duration of the wake usually ranges from 1 to 7 days, depending on the family’s preferences and religious customs.
