Funeral Planning Guide
As the funeral industry in Singapore adapts and improves its range of services, it is now crucial for our general public to educate themselves and prepare ahead of time. As with any milestone event in life, we would want the funeral of our loved one (or our own) to be tailored to our family's needs at such a crucial time.
This funeral guide serves as a way to start you out on your funeral planning and education journey, and touches on the general things that all funerals would need to have. Stay tuned or look out for our articles and updates that covers the finer details of funerals and bereavement!
Funeral Venue - Parlour or Home?
One of the first questions that our funeral directors will ask families would be their desired location for the funeral service. Would you prefer the funeral to be closer to home, or at a parlour?
While a funeral parlour is more presentable, hosting one at home provides convenience for the family.
Void deck funeral services have also improved to give families the convenience while also providing the comfort and look of a parlour.
Religious Service
Also on the top of the list of most funeral directors – what type of religion should the funeral be? The answer to this is straightforward for regular practitioners of their faith, but not quite for the more secular ones.
A funeral however, need not have to be a religious affair. Families may plan a secular funeral service for their loved ones with the funeral directors.
Along with religious services, we can also think about how we can create a remembrance of our loved ones and celebrate the life that has been lived.
Final Resting Place
The funeral ends when our loved one’s remains have been put to rest at a suitable location of our choice. We can either choose to bury in a burial plot, or send our loved ones off via cremation.
Loved ones that have been buried will eventually need to be exhumed depending on the lease of the land. The exhumed remains will then be cremated.
We would have to decide what we would like to do with the ashes after the cremation. We can either inter the ashes in a niche or columbarium, or scatter the ashes at sea or land.
Funeral Service
The details of the funeral wake has to be decided upon after the big decisions. Most funeral directors will include a standard funeral wake setup that is sufficient for an ordinary funeral reception. This would include some decoration, tables and chairs, and the arrangement of mobile toilets and tidbits.
Beyond the standard, families can also choose to have additional decorations and floral pieces to be placed at the funeral venue. Funeral directors also offer a variety of custom services from TV rental to photo montages. More elaborate services will require additional time and is best to plan with your funeral director ahead of time so that it may be prepared in time.
Plan ahead for peace of mind
Pass on with dignity, the way you want it.
Funerals are a very personal and emotional event. It should not be something to be rushed through with little thought. Make decisions for yourself and your family ahead of time. Grant the ones you love a moment of solace, knowing that everything has been prepared for them.
