What to Think About When Engaging A Roman Catholic Funeral Provider?
1. Do You Require Any Customisations?
If you have specific preferences on how the funeral should be held or additional requests in terms of facilities, we are happy to customise the arrangements to honour your loved one’s final wishes. Knowing these information beforehand will help us prepare efficiently to provide the best service possible.
2. Where Should The Wake Be Held?
Would you prefer the funeral to be closer to home, or at a parlour? While a funeral parlour is more presentable, hosting one at home provides convenience for the family. Void deck funeral services have also improved to give families the convenience while also providing the comfort and look of a parlour.
3. Where Should The Final Resting Place Be?
We can either choose to bury in a burial plot, or send our loved ones off via cremation. Loved ones that have been buried will eventually need to be exhumed depending on the lease of the land. The exhumed remains will then be cremated. We would have to decide what we would like to do with the ashes after the cremation. We can either inter the ashes in a niche or columbarium, or scatter the ashes at sea or land.
Roman Catholic Funeral Services in Singapore
A full Roman Catholic funeral service in Singapore typically consists of three key components, The Vigil (Wake Service), The Funeral Mass, The Rites of Committal (Final Burial or Cremation Rites).
The funeral journey usually begins with The Vigil. Family and friends gather to pay their final respects, and support one another in grief. They may also recite the Rosary and participate in prayer sessions. Prayer groups from the parish or church may be invited to lead nightly prayer. Eulogies, tributes, or photo displays may also be included to honour the deceased’s life.
After the wake, the body is transported to the church for The Funeral Mass. Key elements of the Funeral Mass includes entrance procession with the casket, readings from Scripture and a homily by the priest, the Eucharist (Holy Communion) & final commendation and farewell prayers. If the family has a preferred church, we will coordinate directly with the parish. If not, our team can assist with arranging a suitable church location, ensuring all liturgical requirements are met.
The final stage of the funeral is the Rites of Committal, conducted at the cremation site (e.g. Mandai Crematorium) or cemetery (e.g. Choa Chu Kang Christian Cemetery). Prayers of commendation, final blessings from the priest or deacon, personal farewells from family and guests. This is where the deceased is entrusted into God’s care, and loved ones offer their last goodbyes. For cremations, we also guide families through the ash collection process in the days that follow.
